An animal lover, Ivo Gonçalves always had a soft spot for caring about unlucky kittens and dogs. He's also a major geek for comic books and a well-versed guy in music. This is his Name a Track.

That reminds you of someone

Oh, where to begin?

That reminds you of a place

This song reminds me of the streets of New York, a city I adore. But that’s not it, it’s one of my favorite songs ever, I just feel that it could be the soundtrack for life, period.

That turns you on

I can’t say that this song turns my Bruce Banner into the Hulk, but it’s sexy as fuck. N.E.R.D. is life!

You listen when you’re sad

This was a tough one. I’m the kind of guy that - when feeling sad - will often turn to a bunch of songs thinking “Oh, I’m feeling sad, innit? Let’s make it a little worst, maybe it will go away faster”.

You listen with your friends

Faith no More is one of my top five bands, no debate. Mike Patton is an absolute beast of a lead singer (on my top three with Chris Cornell and Alex Turner) and it just so happens I share that love with a lot of my friends, so there you go.

That pumps you up for a night out

Nights out are for dancing. And nothing gets me going as hip hop. I could choose a million songs for this category, so I’ll just go with this one, ‘cause I’ve been listening to it a lot, on my pajamas, pretending I’m going out. Picture it, you put on your playlist, ready to get fresh and clean, and start feeling that damage will be done and Sunday morning won’t be easy.

That goes well with a glass of wine

Glasses (plural, because life) of wine are, more often than not, an occasion for some thinking and some solace. This music has an “embrace the inevitable” and “everything will be OK in time” vibe that really makes me feel melancholic, yet at ease.

That’s been with you since your quarantine

Orelha Negra is hands down, my number one music project made in Portugal. They always pop up on every playlist I conjure, so they had to be on this one.

You wish you had written

This was probably the most difficult one to choose from. In my opinion, Chris Cornell and Alex Turner are - by far - the best lyricists to ever play the game, but I’ll abide by the rules, so here’s a song from the masterpiece “Euphoria Morning” by Chris. If you haven’t heard it (and read the lyrics), you’re missing out.

You haven’t seen performed live

I just had to include this one. Besides being a part of my absolute favorite movie (Pulp Fiction - best OST ever), it’s all-around wonderful. That feeling, man. That feeling.

By your favorite artist

Bruce is not my number 1, never will be. But somehow, in the last couple of years, this song as grown into a monster in my life. 80’s music has a pureness to it that just makes me feel at home. I love everything about it.

You’re going to listen when the quarantine is over

Can’t we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can’t we give love that one more chance?
