Kaffeehaus
Located right in the heart of Lisbon (Chiado), Kaffeehaus almost shares walls with one of the capital’s most famous theaters, São Carlos. It feels like the perfect cafe to sit down, enjoy a book or read a magazine, forgetting the hassle of everyday life, but with a Viennese sense of style and cuisine.
This is an Austrian café, so that makes sense.
The space was bought and designed by two Austrians who fell in love with Lisbon and brought their culture into the heart of the city. It’s one of the coolest cafes in Lisbon, with the plus of wonderful food and an awesome atmosphere. The decoration is a big part of Kaffeehaus, where the walls are filled with movie and theater posters that blend with those of concerts and events.
With this kind of mood, it’s easy to guess the cuisine provided: Austrian and german meals with Frankfurt sausages in the center. The meat comes from the butcher of one of the owner’s father. You can choose from six different types, served with spiced potato wedges and accompanied by beautiful tarragon mustard. I tried a couple and they don’t disappoint.
You can also try the brunch, which is a must. They have four to choose from accompanied by Austrian pastry, cheese,, sausage, yogurt with muesli and scrambled eggs.
Every day there’s something new written on the chalkboard over the counter, so you won’t be bored at the second or third visit.
I’ve always lived in Lisbon and Kaffeehaus has been one of my favorite places to hang out. It’s very well located, has a great vibe from Portuguese and tourists, food is amazing. What else can you ask for?
